Appalachia Habitat for Humanity, Inc.,is a non-profit, Christian, housing ministry, which serves Scott and Morgan counties, Tennessee. The Ministry was created in 1978, and is the second oldest Habitat for Humanity affiliate in the world. The organization, which serves the housing needs of very-low income households, has built 210 new homes, completed over 221 remodels of existing homes and acquired then rehabbed 12 homes throughout its service area.
The mission of Appalachian Life Quality Initiative (ALQI) is to serve the underserved children in Scott County. Of the 22 programs under ALQI’s umbrella, the programs currently receiving direct oversight by ALQI are: Scott County Dental Clinic – dental services for children through age 20; Children’s Health And Maintenance Plan (CHAMP) – annual dental screenings in all schools with follow-ups and assistance for qualifying parents with dental treatment and transportation to the Dental Clinic on the CHAMP Bus; Agape Christian Learning Center – teaching 2-4 year olds to love reading and about Jesus; Bible Released Time – parents of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders can request their child be released from school one hour per month for Bible study at a nearby church; Mission of Hope – contact for local events co-sponsored by MOH; Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library – oversight for Scott County; Remote Area Medical – host for local RAM Clinics; The Salvation Army Scott County Service Unit – oversight of local service unit; and more.

In addition, every child is given a hand-made quilt that has been donated by various caring ladies and church groups in our community. This gives each child a sense of security and something to call their own. Our Child Advocacy Center, is an Accredited Member of the National Children’s Alliance. This was first awarded to the Center in May 2005.
